Creating Adinkra style cloth during International Art Week

Class 7 have been immersed all week in finding out about the fascinating culture of Ghana in West Africa. The week consisted of researching Adinkra symbols and how the special Adinkra cloth is made. We then designed our own symbols, made them into stamps and designed our own original and creative patterns. The theme was peace and reconciliation after reading a wonderful story called ‘Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters’ where there is great conflict between the 2 sisters. The cloths we designed were for wedding outfits for the 2 sisters and the king and reflect the importance of (amonst others) strength, peace, love, loyalty and friendship.

We also had fun learning a fantastic Ghanaian dance thanks to Miss Brammer! Here is some of our brilliant work!
